Swimming Pool Planning Considerations

Some factors you should take into account before ordering your Summit DIY Pool Kit are:

  • Access - Removing soil from the ground is not normally difficult, but you will need access for digging machinery and vehicles to remove soil that is not required for landscaping. You will also require delivery space for building materials and access for those.
  • Planning Permission - Although planning permission is not normally required for an outdoor swimming pool, it is advisable to check with the local planning authority first. You should also inform your water company of your intentions as your water rates may be adjusted and, depending on where you live, a charge for filling the pool may be levied.
  • Power & Plant Room - A power supply will be needed for the filter, pump and controls, underwater lights and if you decide to heat your pool, a heater or heat pump. If the pool is not near to the house, it may be possible to take a supply from a garage or workshop, to minimise the cable run. If you have a suitable shed adjacent to the pool, it may be possible to convert it to a plant room or if one is not available you may have to include such a structure in your purchasing plans.
