Finnish Saunas
The steady increase in the popularity of saunas is a sign of the times, as many more people are taking their health seriously and taking advantage of the many benefits that a sauna traditionally offers. A sauna quickly becomes a natural part of everyday life for the whole family, a place to unwind at the end of a long, hard day as your muscles relax and your mind is refreshed. As there are many types of bathing ~ dry saunas, wet saunas, and herbal saunas, the cabin must be able to cope with both dry heat and clouds of steam. The woods used have special qualities to withstand these extremes of high heat and humidity. All interior benches and backrests are constructed to the same high quality ensuring maximum strength and durability. For most Finns sauna is a way of life and it is seen as a very social event, some women even give birth in their saunas! The sauna concept is very simple - a timber lined room is heated to a temperature of 75 to 80°C - normally such high heat would be uncomfortable but the sauna cabin wood absorbs the moisture thus creating a dry atmosphere, that is then quite pleasant for short periods, promoting heavy perspiration which opens the pores deep cleansing the skin.
The are many different design options available to you including glazed wall sections to give the sauna a feeling of space and light or completely enclosed wood walls give a more secluded feeling. You can now even include infrared technology to further enhance the health benefits or DVD & sound for a more recreational time! |
