Summit Leisure are delighted to announce the winning of the contract to supply and install one of their bespoke telescopic swimming pool enclosures at the prestigious St. John’s International School, Sidmouth, as part of a six-figure project which will also see the school’s – currently outdoor –  swimming pool and surround completely refurbished by Isca Pools of Ottery St Mary.

One of the key aims of the works being undertaken at St. John’s was to get much more use from the pool when it’s refurbished. As the pool was outdoors, the weather and seasons were a hugely limiting factor on how much use it could be put to. That will all change when the new Summit Leisure telescopic building is installed during the summer holidays.

St. John’s headmaster Mike Burgess told the local Sidmouth Herald newspaper, “Covering the pool will make a huge difference to us and will also allow us to provide access for the local community to a fantastic facility. We look forward to welcoming lots of local children to St John’s to use this pool – either with the roof open in the Sidmouth sunshine or when the weather is less friendly!”

As Mr Burgess notes, not only will the school soon have the benefit of an indoor swimming facility all year round but, thanks to the innovative design of the Summit Leisure building, they can open the building right up to take advantage of the very best that Devon summers have to offer when at its best.

The building, shown in the above Summit Leisure CAD renderings, is a full height telescopic building of the ‘Ondine Alpin’ 9 angle roof design. It will measure 12.46m wide across the inside and 24.53m long externally. The toughened safety glass enclosure will be fabricated in 11 elements made up of 5 double sections and one single with access doors at each end. As with all Summit Leisure telescopic enclosures,  its unique, innovative design and superior strength means that it will not  require unsightly guide rails or tracks to run on, which not only attract dirt and leaves, but could pose a trip hazard for the students using the facility.
